On Thursday night, the main taproom at Loveland’s Verboten Brewing was packed with people enjoying beers as the week wound down. The barrel room next door, however, was filled with people seeking a different sort of fun and relaxation: the kind that comes with creating a one-of-a-kind piece of art. They were there for one of Cat Colonna’s fluid painting events, during which Colonna provides a brief tutorial in fluid painting, which involves pouring acrylic paints onto a canvas that naturally spread to create interesting and distinctive patterns, before setting participants lose to create their own masterpieces. Colonna, who lives in Fort Collins but regularly teaches classes all over the Front Range, said she discovered fluid painting two years ago on Pinterest and began doing it as a hobby. Her ex-husband noted the popularity of traditional paint and sip events around the country and first encouraged Colonna to share her passion for fluid painting with others through events at breweries.
